The 2011 AFL home and away season is still over five weeks away but football fever has already started to take hold in Melbourne, particularly for Carlton fans.

Over 5,000 Carlton supporters were at Visy Park to meet the players and enjoy the activities at the Hyundai Blues Family Day. While there were activities for all the family, it was the Carlton players that everyone wanted to see and talk to during the day.

Players were involved in a number of the activities and there was no surprise to see the biggest line for autographs was in front of the captain, Chris Judd.

Carlton President Stephen Kernahan officially welcomed everyone to the Family Day and said the club was looking forward to the 2001 season that commences on Thursday March 24 against Richmond at the MCG.

“Last night (Round one of the NAB Cup) was a good hit out for the team with most of our young players gaining some valuable experience in front of a big crowd. We are certainly looking forward to the start of the real season and continuing our improvement.

“We want to be involved in the finals again and this year we need to win a final and ensure we play a home final here in Melbourne in front of you great supporters, our home crowd.

“I want to thank everyone for joining the players here today and in particular supporters who have joined as members in 2011. We have nearly 30,000 members and it is a great start as we strive to have 50,000 members this year.

“Thanks also to our fantastic sponsors, including our joint major sponsors Hyundai and Mars. Hyundai support today’s family day and it was fantastic that earlier in the wee we announced the extension of our successful partnership with Hyundai for a further three years.

“Hyundai is also the naming rights sponsor for the Family Day here at Visy Park and of course we once again thank Visy for their ongoing commitment to partner with Carlton,” Kernahan said.

The players were then introduced on stage, with Chris Judd being the final player to be introduced to the crowd. Judd said he was looking forward to the next match in two weeks time as he prepares for the 2011 season.

If the enthusiasm of the supporters at the 2011 Hyundai Blues Family Day is any indication, the 2011 season promises to be an exciting one for Carlton.
