MIDFIELDER Adam Cerra wants the team to get back to playing the best version of “Blues footy”.

One of Carlton’s brightest sparks so far this season, Cerra spoke on RSN Breakfast about this Sunday’s upcoming clash with Gold Coast.

While there was no shortage of frustration and disappointment following last week’s loss against Essendon, Cerra believed the Blues could take heart from the brave ball movement that resulted in forward entries and shots on goal.

However, he’s completely cognisant of the fact that the Blues need to tidy things up if they’re to return to winning form.

“Every week, we’re chasing us. In the last few weeks, we haven’t quite nailed it,” Cerra said.

“We’re bringing it back to playing brave football, playing for the jumper and hopefully putting on a game performance for the fans.

“We have an idea and a picture of where we want to be . . . and at the moment, we’re not there. If we get a couple more things right, we’re still excited by where we can get to and we really believe in it.

"Internally, we keep valuing those things and on the field, we try to acknowledge them and help bring our football team to life."

Cerra has been one of the individuals at the Blues this season that has made strides in their game, elevating himself to one of the premier accumulators in the competition: he ranks third in the AFL for effective disposals at the midway point of the season.

But the 23-year-old knows that it’ll require a lift across the board for the team to get themselves back where they need to be.

When asked about the main positive for Carlton has been in a time where there’s been so much talk about the reverse, Cerra’s response was immediate.

“The way this club has been able to stick together,” he said.

“We’re going through a hard patch at the moment, but this group is sticking together. The only way to get by it is by going through it.

“The group has a strong connection with each other. We’re holding tight and we believe in what we’re building . . . we’re sticking together and really believe that if we get to work, we can turn this around.

“I think it reflects a really strong club culture from top to bottom.”
