CARLTON player No.1236.
Alex Cincotta will add another chapter to an amazing personal tale when he debuts for the Blues on Sunday.
The first player signed to the inaugural Carlton Reserves list for 2021 became the final player on Carlton’s AFL list as a supplemental selection period signing.
Overcoming an ACL injury to play his first game for the VFL Blues in year one, Cincotta ended 2022 on the Club’s VFL Best and Fairest podium, impressing as an explosive, physical half-back.
Cincotta has been made to do it the hard way, plying his trade in the Geelong Football League for Newtown and Chilwell — now, at 26 years of age, he gets his chance in the AFL.
It comes off the back of a standout start to the VFL season, where he collected 37 disposals last Friday night against Richmond after 35 disposals in Round 2 against GWS.
DEFYING THE ODDS Alex's "amazing" story
Speaking to media on Friday, assistant coach Ash Hansen said Cincotta was the epitome of persistence pays off.
“Alex Cincotta will make his debut for the Carlton Football Club, which is really exciting,” Hansen said.
“It's a story of persistence and resilience.
“He's certainly well-equipped. He'll provide some really good run and maturity at the contest.”
Carlton’s full team will be announced at 5pm tonight.
