CARLTON young guns Lucy McEvoy and Abbie McKay have been selected in the final 22under22 side for AFLW season seven.
Both players feature in the side for the first time after producing outstanding performances during the season.
The 22under22 final team is fan-voted and was introduced to reward young players who make an impact on their club and the wider competition.
McEvoy made a move into defence where she reinvigorated her game and proved a fierce competitor.
The 21-year-old finished the season averaging 13.5 disposals per game, 4.2 intercept possessions and 2.5 rebound 50s.
She came right out of the blocks in season seven with 24 disposals, 15 kicks and six tackles in the season opener against Collingwood.
McKay’s selection comes off the back of a breakout season where she showed a fantastic mix of power and speed and cemented her place in the Blues’ midfield.
The 22-year-old averaged 20.7 disposals, 11.6 contested possessions, 4.8 clearances and 7.4 tackles throughout the season.
Her best game came in Round 4 against Fremantle, recording 29 disposals, 10 clearances, eight tackles and 300 metres gained in the drawn result.
Carlton General Manager of Women’s Football Brett Munro felt McEvoy and McKay were leaders amongst the next generation of Blues players.
“We have a great group of young talent emerging and Lucy and Abbie are at the forefront of that cohort,” Munro said.
“Both players constantly go above and beyond what we ask of them and they are dedicated to further improving their game and growing in their development.
“Lucy played almost exclusively in the backline this season which further elevated her game, while Abbie was a bright spark in the midfield and has shown the entire competition that she will be one to watch over the coming years.
“It is a pleasure to watch Lucy and Abbie be rewarded for their efforts this season, and it’s wonderful to see the fans recognise all the hard work they have put in.”
