He’s been on deck for less than a fortnight, but Carlton’s new backline coach says he’s “loving every minute” at Ikon Park.
Dale Amos was appointed as an assistant coach in October, and like many of Carlton’s latest recruits, he’s been getting to know his new colleagues in his second official week at the Club.
Speaking to Crocmedia on Wednesday, the 38-year-old said it’s “refreshing and exciting” to be at Carlton.
“We’re all new and we’re all learning together – it’s exciting to share the journey together,” Amos said.
“It’s been an interesting experience, almost like you’re starting back at school – lots of faces to get to know and lots of people to meet.”
Amos spent seven years at Geelong and at the end of the season he decided it was time for a change and a new challenge.
After securing a meeting with club officials, including senior coach Brendon Bolton, Amos admitted it was a “no brainer” – he wanted to join the Blues.
“I had the opportunity to be interviewed for the position at Carlton. I met with Ken Sheldon, Andrew McKay and Brendon himself ... and I walked away genuinely excited.
“I was excited by the position the Club was in, what they were going to do moving forward, and I was excited about what Brendon was going to bring to the table at Carlton.
“I was unbelievably impressed about what he (Bolton) was setting about doing, the agenda he had, and I couldn’t be more excited about having the chance to work with him.”
Carlton’s 1-4 year players returned to Ikon Park on Monday, and so far Amos says he’s been very impressed by the young Blues’ endeavour.
“The attitude of their (players) approach in the initial stages has been outstanding. They’ve been very keen to learn and very enthusiastic on the track.
“I think if they can carry this attitude through it will hold them in good stead in terms of learning and developing.
“All the coaching staff are extremely positive and excited about what we’ve seen and what we’ll be able to do as a group moving forward.”
On Wednesday morning coach Brendon Bolton said he was focused on creating a united club. Amos reiterated this, as well as saying the coaches and players want to also build a club people can be “proud of”.
Carlton’s 4+ year players return to training on 23 November, ahead of a pre-season training camp in December.
