Defensive duo Sam Docherty and Liam Jones have been recalled to AFL Media’s ‘Team of the Week’, following their outstanding efforts in the Blues’ seven-point victory over Hawthorn on Saturday night.
Docherty and Jones last featured among the best 22 in Round 20, but have been listed within the line-up on multiple occasions throughout the season.
In the Round 22 team, Docherty joined Gold Coast’s Steven May and Sydney’s Dane Rampe in the backline, while Jones was named as a half-back alongside Greater Western Sydney’s Nathan Wilson and West Coast’s Elliot Yeo.
Docherty earned his spot in this week’s side after he gathered 31 disposals (93.4 per cent efficiency), 15 marks, six rebound-50s and two goal assists in a performance which afforded the 23-year-old the David Parkin Medal as best afield.
While the reining John Nicholls Medallist marshalled the Blues in the back half, Jones patrolled Hawthorn spearhead Jarryd Roughhead, keeping him to just one goal.
With a huge 16 one-percenters, Jones’ intent and work-rate was superb from the first bounce.

The two Blues will look to perform strongly again when they lace up their boots for the final time this season to tackle the Sydney Swans on Saturday 26 August at the SCG.
