IN-FORM Carlton young gun Marc Murphy says the Blues are already looking forward to next week’s blockbuster match against Collingwood, following Sunday night’s heart-stopping come-from-behind win against Port Adelaide.
With the Blues now just half a game outside the top eight, Murphy says the Pies will provide just the test
“We’re just taking it the old ‘one week at a time’,” Murphy said in the crowded
“But we’re really looking forward to playing against Collingwood next week. It will be a good test for us. We’ve already beaten them once this year, so hopefully we can try and back it up again and get another win.”
Murphy found plenty of the ball throughout the match (33 touches), but wasted much of it during the first three quarters. But when the whips were cracking in the last quarter he started doing almost everything right.
Murphy said the Blues always believed they were a chance, despite trailing by as much as 38 points, and by 30 at the last break. That belief was built on the back of the game stats, which showed
“We knew we were going alright,” Murphy said. “We knew we were playing pretty good contested footy. We were putting plenty of pressure on them, but we couldn’t finish off.
“But we always believed we were in the game.
“In that last quarter, once we started to get a roll on and slot those goals it came together well. You never know what can happen if you kick a few early goals.”
Murphy praised last quarter hero Matthew Kreuzer, whose three goals set the Blues on the road to the win.
“It was good to see Kreuz kick a few in the last quarter and play some good footy. He’s been down in the last couple of weeks and he really wanted to step up. It was great for his confidence and good to see a smile on his face.”
