ZAC FISHER has extended his time in Navy Blue, signing a two-year extension to take his stay at the Club until at least the end of 2025.
For Fisher, it was a no-brainer, with the Western Australian loving his time at the Club: in particular, the people which the popular Blue gets to work with.
“It’s super exciting. It’s great really, how much fun I’m having at the Blues,” Fisher said.
“I’m really pumped to stay around all the people around the Club: coaches, staff and all my teammates.”
Fisher has had a strong impact in 2022, playing every game so far for the Blues and kicking a career-high 13 goals despite there still being eight weeks remaining in the season. He also achieved a career-best disposal tally in Round 15, accumulating 29 possessions against Fremantle.
Without injury plaguing Fisher’s game time, the 24-year old has been able to put more consistent games together, whether it's impacting the play with his pressure or scoreboard impact in a forward-mid role.
“I think a little bit of consistency with my body, having a full pre-season then coming into the regular season [has held me in good stead]”, he said.
Enjoying being a part of a new-look 'mosquito fleet’ - a group of small forwards with the name synonymous with the Carlton of old - Fisher gets great enjoyment playing with his counterparts such as Matt Owies, Corey Durdin and Jesse Motlop.
“They’re a fun little, unique group and it’s pretty good that they’re getting some recognition this year,” he said.
Fisher’s penetrating left foot sets him aside from a lot of kicks in the competition, but his unique goal celebrations are up there with some of the best: including, in his mind, the chief celebrator that is Sam Walsh.
“‘Walshy’ likes a good goal celebration, Charlie [Curnow] loves a good double cobra, ‘Crippa’ breaks about four tackles to get to the crowd,” he said.
“[The noise] is pretty exciting, I think I’m slowly getting used to it: there’s nothing like a Bluebaggers crowd, that’s for sure.”
Some of the loudest reactions in the stands this season have been reserved for Fisher's moments, whether it was his sealer against Sydney in Round 10 or a final-quarter goal against Richmond in the drought-breaking Round 1 win.
For Fisher, the latter in particular was an experience which he won't forget.
“My favourite moment would have to be maybe Round 1 this year,” he said.
“When I kicked a goal in the last quarter, the roar was unbelievable.”
A proud product of York, Western Australia, Fisher is excited to return to home soil this weekend to face the Eagles. However, when asked about which Blue will get the biggest reception, Fisher knew to stay in his lane.
“You’d think Paddy Cripps.”
