AHEAD of the Club's annual AFL Carlton Respects Game, Nic Newman and George Hewett fronted the media to talk about the cause and the upcoming game against St Kilda on Friday night.
Coming off a great win against the Dockers, the Blues quickly turn their attention to Friday night in a game where they will come up against another quality opponent while also having their flagship community initiative front and centre.
It will be the first time the Blues have worn a Carlton Respects guernsey, with an orange trim added to the traditional Navy Blue.
Here's what they had to say.
Newman on Carlton Respects:
"It’s a really special week and a great week to be a part of with the Carlton Respects [initiative].
"It’s a really valued initiative from the Club, it’s our main community engagement piece and it’s something we’re really proud of as a Club, proud to represent and it's great to have it part of the jumper this year."
Hewett on gender equality:
"I think the AFL has done a great job [integrating gender equality] and has come a long way in the last four or five years and I think Carlton leads the way very well as well."
Newman on the Fremantle game:
"We were very pleased. As 'Vossy' said, it was probably one of our best performances of the year and we were very happy with how we played and the consistency over the four quarters.
"It was our best game as a group against some really quality opposition in Freo and an important win.
"While we’re really pleased, we’ve got to move on pretty quick, because Friday night will come around really quickly and the Saints will be raring to go."
Hewett on four-quarter football:
"We've got new coaches and we trained so hard and so well in pre-season, but the opposition wants to play their best football as well so there are always going to be turns in momentum.
"We're getting there. On the weekend, we were very consistent."
Hewett on the injury list:
"I don't know what the number is, but is seems like we’ve been rolling through 35 or 40 players but we’ve been grinding some great wins. It goes to show how strong our list is.
"Some players like 'Kempy' on the weekend: he’s a bit undersized but he played his role fantastically. I think we’re doing a great job."
