Carlton’s AFL Women’s team is set to grow ahead of its second season.
Following the AFL’s announcement on Wednesday of the 2018 NAB AFLW list rules, Carlton will be able to list 27 primary players as well as three rookies to shape a total squad of 30 for 2018.
With the Club able to retain up to 22 of its inaugural players, eight new faces could pull on the navy blue for the first time next season.
Changes to Carlton’s AFLW team could take hold from the beginning of the upcoming AFLW Trade Period which will operate from Monday 15 May to Friday 26 May.
Over the course of the Trade Period, the Club will have the option to re-sign players from its 2017 list who desire to stay at Ikon Park, while also facilitate trades with the seven other AFLW clubs for one or more players on their inaugural lists.
In line with the 2018 list rules, Carlton – from Monday 15 May – may also nominate up to two athletes from another sporting code to join the Blues as a rookie.
Carlton’s primary list of 27 players will be finalised during the 2018 NAB AFL Women’s Draft in mid-October 2017.
