JACK Carroll will be Carlton AFL player No.1229 when he runs out for his debut on Saturday night.

It was confirmed on Friday morning by AFL Senior Coach Michael Voss that Carroll would feature against North Melbourne in the Round 7 clash.

Carroll is a late inclusion for fellow midfielder George Hewett, who will miss after receiving a cork to the calf.

The young West Australian was selected with pick No.41 in the 2020 NAB AFL Draft from East Fremantle — the same junior club as captain Patrick Cripps.

The left footer was among Carlton’s best in the VFL last week, contributing 25 disposals and two goals, having spent time as an inside midfielder, on the wing and across half forward.

Last month, he recommitted to the Blues until at least the end of 2024, and will now get his first senior opportunity at Marvel Stadium tomorrow night.

In doing so, he’ll run out with fellow 2020 draftee - and housemate - Corey Durdin.

“Jack Carroll will play his first game, which is really pleasing for Jack,” Michael Voss said on Friday.

“He had a pre-season which was absolutely outstanding. He could have stated a strong case to play in Round 1, had a few little interruptions and a few more in the last month, but his last couple of weeks have been really strong.

“He comes into the team in really good form. He’s tough and he’s hard and he’s earned his spot.

“He has worked really closely with our mids right throughout pre-season and he’s mixed it with a few of the other boys in there. He won’t shirk a contest this young man.

“The Carlton faithful will be pretty happy watching his career unfold.”
