JORDAN Boyd will make his AFL debut on Sunday afternoon.
Selected in the 2021 NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, the rebounding defender will take the place of Adam Saad.
The Club can confirm that Saad will miss the Round 3 clash with Hawthorn after entering AFL Health and Safety Protocols today.
It means Boyd, whose strong summer saw him feature in Carlton’s AFL practice match and been one of its best at VFL level so far this season, will get his chance at the elite level.
It’s another moment in a memorable journey for the 23-year-old, who was playing for Spotswood in the Western Region Football League as recently as 2019 before making his way onto Footscray’s VFL list.
Boyd will join good mate Lewis Young in the Navy Blue for the first time, having played alongside one another at Whitten Oval in recent seasons. It was announced yesterday that Adam Cerra would return to the line-up, while Lachie Plowman has been elevated to the 22 after being sub last weekend.
Tomorrow’s game begins at 1:10pm at the MCG: the medical sub will be announced an hour before the bounce.
