Sam Rowe is set to resume his playing career with Carlton, eight months after completing chemotherapy treatment for testicular cancer.
Rowe, taken with Carlton’s second round selection (No.62 overall) in the 2011 AFL Draft, has been named in a squad of 34 players for Sunday’s NAB Cup campaign opener against GWS and reigning Premier Sydney at Blacktown’s Skoda Stadium.
Also named in the squad is the 2012 Morrish Medallist Nick Graham, Carlton’s recent third round draft selection (54 overall), who has impressed in midfield in both intra-club matches recently staged at Visy Park,
Also named for their first hit-outs of the year are Eddie Betts, Andrew Carrazzo, Lachie Henderson, Marc Murphy and Kade Simpson. Murphy will lead the team for the first leg of the triple header against GWS, with Nick Duigan captaining the team for the Swans fixture.
Carlton Senior Coach Michael Malthouse said the Blues would implement a defensive game-plan honing in on the player's strengths.
"We've got certain strengths and we want them to come to the fore, so they'll be heavily promoted," Malthouse said at a press conference at Visy Park today.
