IT’S BEEN a whirlwind few days for Carlton’s two newest faces.
On Thursday night, the Blues welcomed Jesse Motlop, with the South Fremantle small forward snapped up with pick No.27.
He was joined by Domanic Akuei on Friday afternoon, who officially joined Carlton as a Category B rookie as a result of his involvement with the Carlton Academy.
Wasting no time. 😜

Doing the media rounds in the moments after their dreams came true, this is just a taste of what they had to say.

On the immediate emotions after his name was called:
It’s pretty crazy. I heard you say ‘Carlton pick No.27’ and it’s pretty surreal. It hasn’t sunk in yet, I’m over the moon.
On if he had an inkling of Carlton’s interest:
I had my third meeting with them last week and I had a pretty good indication that it might be Carlton, but it all depended on a few other things. Lucky enough they selected me and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.
On the influence of dad, Daniel:
I love watching his highlights. Dad didn’t have to say much to give me tips, I got to experience the whole lifestyle of an AFL player. Growing up, I went to training with him every second day and I used to run amok in the changerooms with the Burgoyne boys. I was lucky enough to have that experience and he didn’t have to say too much.
On the past week, which also saw him celebrate his 18th birthday:
The day has been awesome. I’ve been doing a bit of filming at the moment. We had a party yesterday and it was unlucky that I didn’t get picked then, but we had the same family today in the backyard and watched it. Luckily enough I went early and got to get it over and done with.

On officially becoming a Blue:
It feels great to finally be able to come into the Club and meet the coaches, the players and staff. I’m happy to be here.
When he was notified by the Club:
They brought me into a room and I actually didn’t expect it. They said ‘we need to talk’ and there were five of them sitting there, including ‘Vossy’. They let me know the news there and I was shook, speechless. I couldn’t say anything.
On his background:
I’m South Sudanese, I was born over there. It’s a bit far from here but letting all of my family and friends know is exciting — it’s been a long journey for me. I’m finally here.
On his style of play:
I’m a defender. I prefer to play centre half back but can play full back as well. I don’t model my game off of one player but people say I model my game off of Aliir Aliir. I’m the intercepting type, that’s my game.
