Carlton defender Sam Rowe says there's a "terrific" feeling at Ikon Park after the Blues recorded back-to-back wins.
Rowe, who played on the Suns’ most dangerous forward, helped limit the Gold Coast to just nine goals as the Blues worked their way to a 34-point win.
“It’s terrific, winning is a whole lot better than losing so the boys are certainly feeling a lot better about themselves at the moment,” Rowe told SEN on Monday.
The backman says since stepping in as coach, John Barker has really encouraged the players to “take the game on."
“He’s probably realised some mistakes will come with that (taking the game on) but we accept that and we’ll hopefully polish them up as we go on," Rowe said.
“Sometimes we go a bit fast too often, so we’ve got to learn to have a bit more of a balance where we can control the game for parts and reset."
Young Blues star Patrick Cripps landed his first tagger this weekend after playing a match-winning role in Carlton’s victory over Port Adelaide.
Rowe, who’s in the Blues’ leadership group, says Cripps has a “pretty sound head on him” but it’s unfair for people to be heaping pressure on a young player.
“He’s had a great second year but as well all know it’s a tough game to perform week in week out, and to put that pressure on a young fella is a bit too much to ask,” he said.
When questioned about his personal life, including when he might pop the question to his long-term girlfriend, Rowe joked that he and Marc Murphy had been seeing who could hold off the longest.
“Me and Skip are probably the last two standing with long-term relationships…I know that Skip is heading overseas with his missus and I think they might be going to France.
“He’s not going on a footy trip, so he can go overseas with his missus – there's big news coming up after the off-season I reckon,” Rowe laughed.
“I might be the last one standing!”
