Carlton could add another big man to its list, with American basketballer Matt Korcheck arriving at Ikon Park in July.
Korcheck, who stands at a whopping 206cm and weighs 105kg, caught the eye of recruiters at a Florida screening camp back in April this year.
The 23-year old, who formally played for the Arizona Wildcats, hasn’t played much football, but with the combination of his size, athleticism and strength he has the potential to be an explosive AFL player.
The Blues will host Korcheck while he’s in Australia, giving the Carlton Football Club the first right to sign him as an international rookie.
If that happens, Korcheck would be added to Carlton’s current list under the category B rookie rules.
Carlton’s General Manager of List Management and Strategy Stephen Silvagni says he’s excited to see how the basketballer handles a football.
“Obviously Matt is well equipped when it comes to using a round ball, so we’re looking forward to seeing how he will adapt to the oval ball,” Silvagni said.
“We’ll get him to take part in some light drills with our players including kicking and handballing.
“We’re really looking forward to hosting Matt and welcoming him into our football club.”
