CARLTON midfielder Matthew Kennedy will remain a Blue in 2022 after re-signing with the Club today.
Putting pen to paper on a new one-year contract, the 24-year-old will enter his fifth season at IKON Park.
Since arriving at the Club from Greater Western Sydney during the 2016 trade period, Kennedy has managed 42 senior games with his 13 appearances in 2021 being his most in a season in Navy Blue.
Pulling on the No.7 from Rounds 3–6, the former first-round draft pick returned to VFL level before being recalled to the senior line-up on the back of the bye to feature in the last 10 games of the season.
Blues Head of List Management Nick Austin said the Club was pleased to see Kennedy take his chance in the second half of the season.
“Matt worked extremely hard this year to earn his spot in the side after the bye and it was pleasing to see him make the most of his opportunities at the back end of the season,” Austin said.
“With his running patterns being a major focus of his, he was able to cover more ground, adding grunt to our midfield and winning the ball to support the likes of Patrick Cripps and Sam Walsh.
“We look forward to seeing Matt build on his strong end to the year and push for more senior opportunities in 2022.”
