The Carlton Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of former Blue Shaun Hampson as an assistant coach of its AFLW program.
Drafted to Carlton in the 2006 National Draft, Hampson pulled on the Navy Blue for 63 senior appearances before crossing over to Richmond and eventually calling time on his 98-game career in 2018.
The former ruckman is now set to impart his experience on the Game Changers’ tall stocks, returning to IKON Park as the Club’s AFLW ruck/bodywork coach when pre-season begins on Thursday 14 October.
The 33-year-old said he was thrilled to join the Game Changers and open up a new chapter of his football career as an assistant coach.
“I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to join Carlton’s AFLW program,” Hampson said.
“With a very talented group of players, I’m looking forward to returning to the Blues in a coaching capacity and having the chance to utilise my own experience to help the team’s key position players refine their craft.
“I can’t wait to work under Harf and get to know each of the girls this upcoming pre-season in preparation for a big season six starting in January.”
Carlton GM of Women’s Football Brett Munro said Hampson would be a welcome addition to the AFLW coaching team for 2022.
“We are delighted to welcome Shaun back to the Club, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm,” Munro said.
“Having forged his own career as a ruckman over 12 years, Shaun will be a terrific resource, particularly for our All-Australian ruck Breann Moody and our mature-age recruit Jess Good.
“We believe Shaun will be an asset to our program and we look forward to him joining us at the start of our pre-season campaign.”
