Judd’s celebrity/legends team was too strong for the Tigers in game one and then repeated the victory with a similar game plan to prove far too good for Collingwood in the second game. Collingwood coach Nick Maxwell conceding Carlton was too good for his team on the night.
Led brilliantly on the field by former players Glenn Manton, Lance Whitnall and Dean Rice the Carlton side seemed to have too much run and skill for the opposition in the games played between the NAB Cup matches. The games were part of the important fundraising activities for the flood affected community football clubs.
As well as the three former players the Carlton team was represented in fine style by media personalities; Andy Lee, Andy Maher and Samantha Lane, Gavin Donaldson from Hyundai and surgeon Cameron Norsworthy. The ninth member of Carlton’s 9-a-side touch football team was Richard Moore who was the highest bidder on the Carlton website for the final spot on the team. All the money raised from the website auction has gone to the flood appeal.
“It was great to have the former players and personalities involved in the game, it is fantastic for these people to give up their time to help raise funds for the local football clubs that have been affected by the recent floods,” Judd said after the first victory over the Tigers.
“It certainly looks like they have really enjoyed themselves and the win is a bonus. Great to see Sam Lane kick an early goal and get rid of her nerves and everyone get involved in the game.”
Judd was full of praise for the supporters of the three clubs who turned up for the round one NAB Cup fixture.
“Having over 40,000 here on February 12 is fantastic, great for the game and great support for the communities that have been hit by the floods.”
