CARLTON will open its 2012 season at the MCG against Richmond on Thursday March 29th without Andrew Walker, Michael Jamison, Nick Duigan and Rob Warnock.

General Manager Football Operations confirmed today the four players, who have been battling to overcome injuries in the pre-season, will join Jeremy Laidler on the sidelines for Carlton's season opener.

"It is obviously disappointing that these players will not be available but we cannot afford to go into such an important game with any player who has an injury concern," McKay said.

"While disappointing for these injured players it ensures everyone knows there are some positions available in the team for round one . At tomorrow's final pre-season game here at Visy Park against North Melbourne players will be playing for spots providing a really healthy and positive competition within the group," added McKay.

Andrew Walker and Nick Duigan have only played one game in the pre-season competition, against the Brisbane Lions in Maroochydore last weekend. While Duigan played the entire game, Walker only played 20 minutes before being rested. Both have quad injuries with Duigan expected to return in round two of the season, however Walker is expected to miss between three and five weeks.

Michael Jamison is yet to play a game this pre-season after suffering a stress reaction in his back. It was hopeful he would be ready for round one but the club is being cautious with his return and he is now likely to be available for the second round of the season.

Warnock had both shoulders operated on post-season and he has been in full training for a couple of weeks but has not played a game during the pre-season and he too is expected to return in the second round of the season.

Jeremy Laidler dislocated his knee in the second round of the NAB Cup against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium and he is scheduled to return to action early in the season.
