IN HIS first game as stand-in skipper, Jacob Weitering's walked away with a win against the old enemy Collingwood.

Despite a shaky start to the game, Carlton put on a show in the fourth quarter, producing a six-goal term to take home a 29-point victory.

Weitering didn't find out he was captaining the side until the day before, but noted that he had a lot of assistance when the Blues ran out on Sunday afternoon.

"I only found out yesterday so I didn’t have too much time to think about it, but the team just rolled on," Weitering said.

"A few boys had to step up, I had some great help from 'Worpa' [Sam Walsh] and 'Big Edda' [Ed Curnow], who’s been in the shoes before in terms of leadership and the captaincy role."

Weitering's game didn't change too much running out as the skipper, but there was one noticeable different for the quiet defender.

"I had to run out at the front instead of the back of the group: I’m usually at the back with 'Jonesy' and a few of the defenders," he said.

"Nothing much changed: it was more thinking about what I was going to say to the boys when we ran out."

When the Blues trailed at three-quarter time, Weitering noted the side needed to make some adjustments to get the run over the Pies.

"We probably back-shouldered too much: we stood behind them and they were able to transition it from their defensive half to their forward half quite easily," he said.

"We made a few adjustments, we were a bit more assertive on the defensive side, we played in front and turned it over a bit in our forward half and our forwards were able to get a result.

"We probably had our worst game for the year in Round 2 against Collingwood so to get one back against them was massive."
