CARLTON could regain Liam Jones for this weekend’s clash with the old enemy.
A late omission from the weekend’s clash with Geelong due to a back injury, the Club is hopeful that the defender will return straight back to the senior fold for Sunday’s 27th instalment of the Peter Mac Cup.
A star for the Blues in defence this season alongside Jacob Weitering, Jones was given every chance to prove his fitness for the Round 17 match against Geelong but was replaced an hour before the game.
“Liam got a hit to the back last week and he was a bit sore earlier in the week than we thought he was going to be,” Director of High Performance Andrew Russell said.
“He has now turned a corner: he ran today and we think he’s a strong chance to be available this week.”
However, the Blues will be without Levi Casboult for at least the next 2-3 weeks due to a knee injury.
Fellow veteran Marc Murphy will also be unavailable for selection this weekend, but is likely to be available for Round 19 AFL action.
Another fortnight confirmed.

The details for our next two games, including a potential key milestone for a favourite son, have been locked in. ??
“Levi’s knee took us a bit to work out what was going on with it last week: he’s got a PCL injury,” Russell said.
“We’ll see how it settles down, how good his function is and see when he’s ready back to play later in the season.
“‘Murph’ was a little bit slower in his first week with his calf, but it feels a lot better.
“He’s back running and he’ll run this week, train next week and we think he’ll be available to play next week.”
