The aptitude and personality shown by the Carlton Football Club in its win against the West Coast Eagles reassured Michael Jamison that the Blues are on the right track heading into the next chapter of the season.
Speaking with the ABC, Jamison indicated that the character of those who were elevated this week was a major reason why the Blues were able to perform in the clinches.
“We were pretty lucky that … the two young guys that came in, in (Dylan) Buckley and (Troy) Menzel, as we’ve seen, they’re going to be super players and they’re strong characters as well,” Jamison said.
“They’re pretty proud; they know they didn’t play the week before. They came in, they knew they wanted to have a good showing and play well.”
Buckley and Menzel were instrumental in the Blues win. The former of the two gathered 16 disposals and kicked a goal when the game was on the line, while Menzel came on as the substitute and injected speed and energy into the Blues outfit.
Jamison also heaped praise on other teammates who returned to the senior side.
“I think it’s the other guys who have come in over the last couple of weeks, especially (Jarrad) Waite, (Jeff) Garlett and (Brock) McLean who have been dropped and could have easily gone back and sulked a little bit, but I think they’ve shown true character,” Jamison said.
“They went back to the twos, they worked hard on the things that we needed them to work hard on and they’ve come straight back in and given us great results. So I think that shows a bit about this group.”
The experiences from the weekend were invaluable in shaping Carlton’s intentions for the next few weeks and Jamison feels that is important to bottle what happened against the Eagles and use it to prepare for the next part of the season.
“We’ve just got to try and remain consistent now, especially in our preparation, because that leads to results,” Jamison said.
