Cohesion.

It’s a word that Carlton fans have become familiar with as its playing group continue to jell under coach Brendon Bolton.

And this week is no different.

The Blues are hopeful the strengthening bond between its young forward line will develop further against Essendon on Sunday.

Arguably the sole constant of Carlton’s forward 50 in recent seasons, responsibility rests on livewire Charlie Curnow this weekend, with an ankle injury sidelining Mitch McGovern for the clash.

With Harry McKay enjoying a confident start to the year supported by small forward Michael Gibbons, the Blues are eager for that growth to continue.

“They are learning to play together,” Bolton told SEN Breakfast on Friday morning.

“Charlie is probably the only guy for Carlton that has played in that area for the past few years.”

Ahead of Sundays game against the Bombers, Bolton outlined the Blues forward line structure and ball movement as key components to its success.

“We have to make sure that our leading patterns keep providing space for each other,” he said.

“When you’re on, the positivity and feel when you’re moving the ball well can become contagious. That will continue to grow with time."

Although both sides are set to run onto the MCG with a host of key outs, Bolton is excited for the opportunity it presents for younger players.

“We are looking forward to the contest,” he said.

“I think that both teams will have a fair bit of young talent on display and it’ll be good to see two young teams going hard at it.”
