IT WAS the goal that got the Blues going, and it’s been nominated for the Round 15 rebel Goal of the Year.
Adam Saad’s solo run and finish has been duly acknowledged as one of the top three majors from the weekend’s action.
Carlton found itself in the unenviable position of having conceded the first eight scoring shots of the game in a frustrating opening at Marvel Stadium.
It was the dashing recruit who then took matters into his own hands.
Getting on the end of a handball receive from Patrick Cripps in the centre circle, Saad showcased his trademark run in the centre of the ground.
Taking two bounces and streaming through the middle of Marvel Stadium, Saad let fly from the edge of the centre square and sent the Sherrin sailing straight through the big sticks.
Speaking on ABC Grandstand after the game, Saad said it was a slip from his original target which made the goal possible.
“I was speaking to Harry about this: I’m going to blame him slipping for me kicking the goal,” Saad said.
“I went on a run, saw some space and kept taking it: the goal square was open so I had a shot and it went through.
“Defenders like kicking goals so it was good to hit the scoreboard.”
