With only three days to go in the 2014 AFL Trade Period, Carlton will be looking to secure the services of a number of players over the coming days.

Both major papers are reporting that a trade for GWS swingman Kristian Jaksch is imminent, with big-bodied midfielder Mark Whiley also expected to make his way to Visy Park.

Here’s a wrap of what’s being said about the Blues in the media this morning:

Carlton believes it can secure the next Anthony Miles, as well as 195cm swingman Kristian Jaksch, all for the loss of only 10 live picks.

The Blues are set to secure a trade for GWS midfielder Mark Whiley and Jaksch as early as Wednesday by giving up pick 7 and receiving selection 19 from the Giants.

NSW zone selection Whiley is a hard-headed tagging midfielder who averaged 30 touches in the NEAFL this year.

In his 12 AFL games, the 190cm midfielder has done a reasonable job tagging the likes of Gary Ablett, Scott Pendlebury, Nathan Fyfe, Daniel Rich and Dyson Heppell.

Who is Mark Whiley?
Jon Ralph, Herald Sun

- A former Murray Bushranger (from NSW country town Finley) taken as a zone selection for GWS in 2010 after playing for the NSW/ACT Rams

- A 190cm midfielder who has played only a dozen games in his three years for the Giants

- In his NEAFL games he has tagged, kicked a goal a game, racked up countless touches, and impressed rival talent scouts

- He is being pitched as the next Andrew Carrazzo at Carlton as an inside tagger who wins his own ball

- In his NEAFL games averaged 112 Supercoach points, 30 possessions, 12 contested possessions, 0.8 goals a game

Dayne Beams set to join Brisbane Lions, as Blues try to finalise Kristian Jaksch deal

Dayne Beams could become a Brisbane player as soon as Tuesday, with Carlton confident of finalising a deal for Kristian Jaksch sooner rather than later.

The Jacksh trade hinged on a call from his Greater Western Sydney teammate Mark Whiley, who appeared likely to move to the Blues with him.

Carlton met Whiley's manager on Monday, having pieced together every other element of the trade. The deal would lead to the Blues gaining Jaksch, Whiley and sliding from pick seven to pick 19, with GWS taking Carlton's pick seven.

The Blues were also looking at walking Liam Jones to the pre-season draft, having failed to make much headway in talks with the Western Bulldogs regarding the uncontracted forward.

Whiley is a 190-centimetre inside midfielder, who has played 12 games in three years for the Giants since joining the club as a NSW zone selection.
