OVERVIEW
2021 was the year we said goodbye to inaugural Blue and leader Alison Downie - but in true fashion for the veteran, Downie was consistent from beginning to end.
Heading into her fifth year in Navy Blue having never missed an AFLW game, Downie proved more versatile than ever before in her role.
Swinging effortlessly between offence and defence while sharing the ruck responsibilities with Breann Moody, Downie consistently stood up for the Blues in any role thrown her way.
Departing the Club at the end of the home-and-away season, Downie was chaired off alongside Katie Loynes following the Blues' win over the Giants in Round 9.
BEST PERFORMANCE
While it was a frustrating day for the Blues at Whitten Oval in Round 2, Downie proved an undeniable force against the Bulldogs.
Impactful at the centre bounce, Downie collected 11 hitouts to spark the midfield early in their campaign.
Her influence didn't stop there however, the ruck collecting eight disposals and two tackles in a versatile and complete performance.
SEASON HIGHLIGHT
Ruck turned... forward?
Determined to get the Blues their first win of 2021, Downie took matters into her own hands in Moorabbin Round 3.
Only minutes into the third quarter Downie floated forward to slot the crafty goal to put some distance on the scoreline and record her first goal of the year.
