IT was a breakout performance for young midfielder Sam Petrevski-Seton when Carlton defeated the Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
Coach Brendan Bolton commended the collective efforts of the midfield group in the triumphant 44-point victory.
“The midfield should be proud,” Bolton said to media after the win.
“They did it together as a group, it wasn’t just Patrick Cripps or Marc Murphy.”
Petrevski-Seton was at the forefront of that midfield group, finishing the day as the Blues clear best with 35 disposals and a goal.
The breakout performance is right on schedule for the third-year Blue who has been building towards his best.
“That’s one that can give him a heap of confidence about what he’s capable of at this level and he's in his third year, but he's been building for a while,” he said.
“It just shows that it takes a bit of time to get to that level.”
The youngster’s skills around the contest were on full display against the Bulldogs, but it was maturity across the ground that Bolton valued most in his side.
“It’s one simple thing in AFL that we forget – it’s called maturity,” he said.
“Third and fourth year you start to get an understanding of what I take, it’s not any more complex and development isn’t linear.”
Patrick Cripps was once again at his dynamic best, leading the likes of Sam Walsh and Zac Fisher to their own stellar performances.
“He will feel as good not about his own performance, but about the numbers that the other midfielders produced,” he said of the skipper.
