Negotiations on Brendan Fevola’s future playing contract with Carlton have been postponed until after the season. The Club and Fevola’s Management, Velocity Sports, confirmed today that discussions have been put on hold until Carlton’s 2008 season is completed.

“We all believe it is in the best interests of Brendan and also the Carlton team to put further talks on hold until after the season,” said Carlton CEO Greg Swann.

“It is not a matter of being too far away from an agreement, it is more about the media attention being given to the discussions and we are keen to ensure our focus is on the remaining games of the season to provide the best opportunity for the continued development of our young playing list,” Swann added.

Fevola and his Management Team believe it is the best option at this stage of the season; ensuring negotiations do not interfere with preparations for Carlton’s remaining challenges in 2008.

“This is not about discussions not progressing; it is to enable Brendan to continue to perform at his best without the ongoing speculation about his playing future. I am also sure it will be in the best interests of the Carlton team for the remainder of the season,” said Mark Kleiman of Velocity Sports.
