OVERVIEW:
2021 was the year we said goodbye to inaugural Blue and co-captain Katie Loynes, but not before she tore through the midfield a couple more times as a Game Changer.
Heading into her fifth year at IKON Park – her second as co-captain – Loynes solidified her status as the heart and soul of the Blues’ young midfield contingent.
Kicking off her campaign against the old enemy in Round 1, Loynes powered through the season opener with six tackles.
Missing two rounds in the middle of the season, Loynes finished her year strongly with two wins on the road.
BEST PERFORMANCE:
A last outing in Navy Blue was always going to stir an inspiring performance from the tough midfielder.
The hallmark of Loynes’ day at Blacktown Oval was her eight tackles, powerful through the centre of the ground to ensure her side the single-point win.
But Bluebaggers will always remember the moment the siren sounded and Loynes was chaired off alongside fellow inaugural Blue Alison Downie in their last games for the Club.
SEASON HIGHLIGHT:
The skipper was textbook Loynes in Carlton’s season opener against Collingwood in 2021.
Six minutes into the second quarter, the midfielder laid a massive bump against Collingwood Defender Alana Porter.
Despite the game ending in a loss for the Blues, Loynes finished with six disposals and six tackles.
