Succession Plan for the Carlton Board

The Carlton Football Club will not be required to hold an election this year with the retiring board members being the only nominations received to fill the vacated five positions on the board, when nominations closed at 5:00pm today.

Lifelong Carlton supporter and sponsor of the Club, Ryan Trainor, withdrew his nomination earlier this week following discussions with directors that will see Ryan invited to join the board following the retirement of three board members at the end of the 2012 season.

“All directors understand the importance of orderly change and the desire to introduce new people and fresh ideas to the board table,” said Carlton President Stephen Kernahan.

“We believe Ryan will be an excellent director of the Carlton Football Club and this orderly succession plan will ensure the Club benefits from his expertise going forward, while also reducing the number of directors on the board which is in keeping with our strategic plan.

“We certainly appreciate Ryan’s decision and understand it is made in the best interests of the Carlton Football Club.”

Ryan said he was very pleased with the discussion he held with the current board members and that he was looking forward to working closely with the directors before joining the board and injecting new energy and a new voice and ideas at the end of next football season.

“I believe this decision is in the best interests of the Carlton Football Club. It will achieve my goal of becoming a director of the Club while also helping to achieve the Club’s objective to reduce the number of directors. The Club is on the right path and an orderly succession plan is the best outcome,” Ryan said.

The Carlton Football Club Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday December 14 at the MCG, with all registered members welcome to attend.
