ZAC Williams is likely to be available for selection for Carlton in Round 4, but the Blues won’t be able to call upon the services of two young midfielders this weekend.

Williams rolled his ankle after getting caught in a tackle in the first quarter on the weekend, returning to the ground to play out the rest of the game. 

However, after sustaining a concussion in the final moments of the VFL practice match on Saturday, David Cuningham will not play any level of football this weekend.

Unavailable for selection for 12 days under the AFL’s new concussion protocol, Russell said Cuningham would be monitored ahead of the Port Adelaide clash on Saturday week.

“David Cuningham had concussion in the VFL game on the weekend, it was late in the game,” he said.

“He’s recovered really well, but he goes into the 12-day protocol set by the AFL which is a really important process that we go through."

The Blues will also be without Jack Carroll for the next 3-4 weeks after the first-year Blue fractured his thumb in training last Thursday.

After not getting through the required training last weekend, Caleb Marchbank will be tested during the week to determine if he’s available for VFL selection this Saturday. Will Setterfield is also likely to be available after the midfielder was a late omission due to illness.
