IN what was an exciting Easter Sunday for the Carlton Football Club, there was one thing that made a huge difference to the players at Marvel Stadium.
It has been 18 months since the Carlton side has been able to run out to a predominantly Carlton crowd, and the sound said it all.
Putting the disappointment of Round 2 behind them, the Blues delivered the 25,000+ Bluebaggers in attendance an Easter treat – with star performances from Harry McKay, Sam Walsh and Liam Jones giving the fans something to cheer about.
The Carlton faithful did their part, raising the roof on Marvel Stadium and willing the Blues onto their first win of the 2021 season.
Bluebaggers could be heard from outside the stadium when, in his 200th Carlton game, veteran Eddie Betts dribbled a goal home in the second quarter.
The crowd were once again on their feet when Liam Jones put his body on the line late in the game, laying a spoil with a desperation and intent that the defender has become renowned for.
19 frames for THAT goal from the No.19 yesterday.

CEO Cain Liddle noted it was no surprise how the playing group responded to the crowd, knowing their love for the Carlton members and fans runs deep.
“It’s been 18 months since we have had a solid one sided Blues crowd and anyone who would have been at our home game against Fremantle on Sunday would agree that the roar of the Carlton faithful is unlike anything else,” Liddle said.
“The energy of the crowd is noticeable to our players, who love playing for our members and we’re just so appreciative that our players get to play in front of our fans again.

“What we’d love to keep seeing from our members and fans is that home ground advantage – where the minute you step out onto Marvel or the MCG for a Blues home game, you immediately know you’re on our turf. To emulate the energy of what teams experience when playing against the Crows at Adelaide Oval or West Coast at Optus Stadium, is something we want our fans to really get behind.
“We want the opposition to know that when they arrive at our home grounds, they’re going to be up against a dominant and vocal crowd in the Carlton faithful and really embrace that us versus them mentality amongst the crowd. We know our Carlton fans are the most passionate and loudest in the competition, we now want everyone else to know that as well.
“We’ve said it before, but we just couldn’t be more grateful of our members who have stuck with us and re-signed for 2021, particularly during what has been an especially challenging period of uncertainty for many.”
