“IT LOOKS pretty positive.”
Senior Coach David Teague doesn’t have any major concerns but Carlton’s injured trio in last night’s AAMI Community Series clash with St Kilda.
Harry McKay, Jack Newnes and Jacob Weitering all came from the field at different stages of the game at Marvel Stadium, with all three not returning to the field.
McKay and Newnes both sustained rolled ankles, while Weitering received a cork to his hip.
With the game taking place a fortnight before Round 1, Teague said the Blues were always going to take a precautionary approach last night.
“We weren’t going to take any risks,” Teague told media post-match.
“We said all along if any of our boys get too sore [we’ll take them off]: they’ve had a great training block leading into it and we’ve pushed them pretty hard to this stage.
“We’ve got confidence they can run out the season.”
With Eddie Betts to feature in the VFL practice match at Ikon Park later today, Teague also said that Levi Casboult and Mitch McGovern were expected to be available for Round 1.
The Senior Coach said had the game been played later in the weekend instead of on Thursday night, the key forwards could very well have played.
“They weren’t too far away, they probably needed a few extra days,” he said.
“We’ll get some match sim into them throughout the next week and they’ll both be putting their hand up.
“They’ve had strong pre-seasons up until these little hiccups so we expect them to be available for Round 1.”
