THERE’S nothing like a Navy Blue debut: the team is in for Carlton’s journey south to face North Melbourne in Launceston.

Opting for consistency against the Kangaroos, the Blues have made just two changes heading into their first interstate clash of the season.

One young Blue will get her first chance at senior level, with Serena Gibbs set to make her debut in the Round 5 clash. 

The tall forward finds her way into the side in her second year in Navy Blue: she was selected by Carlton with pick No.44 in the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Draft after making the switch from netball. 

Gibbs first made her case for selection after an impressive practice match performance against St Kilda in January, notching two goals that proved pivotal in the two-point win.

Natalie Plane has also made her way back into the side for the clash with the Kangaroos, pulling on the Navy Blue again after two weeks on the sideline.

Madison Prespakis will miss the Round 5 match following a one-match suspension upheld by the Match Review Officer following a dangerous tackle in last week’s clash with Richmond.

Jess Edwards has been omitted for the clash, but will accompany the team to Launceston as an emergency.

Saturday’s clash will be the first time the Blues are able to pull on an AFLW Indigenous guernsey in the first year of the round in the women’s competition.

Designed by 18-year-old Indigenous artist Ky-ya Nicholson-Ward, the guernsey intertwines Indigenous heritage, female empowerment and the journeys of our Game Changers.
