The golf was a lot of fun with the old saying, “everyone’s a winner” being very true. Current players mixed with past players and sponsors for the 18-hole Ambrose event that was played in great conditions. As expected Matthew Lappin and Robert Walls were reported to be among the best players on the day, with long-time Carlton supporter and former pro-circuit golfer, Ian Stanley providing advice for all players on one of the par 3 holes. Reports are that two Carlton premiership Centre Half Forwards, Robert Walls and Marc Maclure, both hit closer to the hole than Ian Stanley as they played the hole.
Once again the dinner was a big success with a number of former players who were unable to play golf due to work commitments, joining the group for another memorable evening.
The Spirit of Carlton – past and present is about the culture of the Carlton Football Club and ensuring the current players are aware of what the Carlton Football Club is about. It provides everyone with the chance to respect our past and understand today while building for the future. The chance for our young players, particularly those new to the Club, to mix with champions of the past, including David Parkin, Mark Maclure, Robert Walls, Mark Naley, Adrian Gleeson, Alex Marcou, Val Perovic, Geoff Southby, Tom Alvin, Rod Ashman, Jim Buckley, David Rhys-Jones, Trevor Keogh and others, is invaluable.
Not only is golf the winner on a day like this but the Carlton spirit is given a boost and this ensures that Carlton is a winner too. It is wonderful to see so many former Carlton players eager to give back to the club, in particular the players, as part of the building of the Carlton Football Club.
