TOUTED as one of the most talented young midfielders in the country, Jack Carroll will call Ikon Park home in 2021 and beyond.
The Western Australian officially became a Blue on the night of the 2020 NAB AFL Draft with selection No.41.
Highly regarded for his class with ball in hand, Carroll is an elite decision-maker who has the scope to be one of the most complete on-ballers from this year’s draft.
Carroll is the modern day hybrid midfielder in that he can win both contested and uncontested ball: he’s just as comfortable getting physical at the contest as he is using his class in space.
He starred for East Fremantle’s Colts side in the WAFL, averaging 23 disposals and over five clearances per game before a wrist injury ended his season prematurely.
Standing at 187 centimetres, Carroll often uses his frame and marking prowess overhead to his advantage against smaller opposition midfielders around the ground.
After welcoming Carroll on draft night, Carlton’s Head of List Management Nick Austin said all involved at the Club were delighted to welcome someone of the Western Australian’s quality.
“We’re thrilled that we’ve welcomed Jack to our football club: we couldn’t have been more united in our decision on the night to draft someone we think is an outstanding talent,” Austin said.
“We regard him as one of the real standout midfielders in this draft class. He’s a really classy user of the ball whether it’s by hand or foot, he’s a great decision-maker and when it comes down to it, he’s a competitor.
“He’s got some weapons as an on-baller and the best part of his game is that he can hurt the opposition in a number of ways. He can win the ball on the inside and outside, at ground level or in the air.
“What we love about Jack is he’s just as impressive off the field as he is on it. He’s really committed to improving himself and he took his game to another level this year.
“Jack’s one of a number of Western Australians we’ve got at the Club and we think he’s going to relish working really closely with Patrick Cripps. We’re stoked to have him.”
