Carlton ruckman Andrew Phillips has undergone surgery on his left foot which will sideline the 25-year-old for the remainder of the season. 

Head of Football Andrew McKay said Phillips experienced soreness during the Northern Blues' game against Werribee and scan results detected a recurrence of a previous injury. 

“Unfortunately, Andrew has had a relapse of the foot injury he had in his left foot back in January,” McKay said. 

“He has had surgery and will be sidelined for approximately 12 weeks, which ultimately rules him out for the remainder of our season.

“We are incredibly disappointed for Andrew, but he will now set his sights on a strong 2018 pre-season campaign in full health.”
 

Meanwhile, Blues midfielder Ed Curnow has been ruled out of this weekend's clash after suffering a bruised larynx during Sunday's match against Richmond. 

“Ed was hospitalised on Sunday evening as a precaution after suffering a knock to his throat area which has resulted in a bruised larynx," McKay said.

“Given the unusual nature of this injury, we will have a clearer indication in the coming days as to the full extent of the bruising, but we will be taking a very cautious approach given the nature of it.” 

Pleasingly, Carlton forward Jed Lamb has been cleared of any structural damage after the 24-year-old was concussed during Sunday’s clash with Richmond at the MCG.

“Jed has been cleared of any structural damage but he has concussive signs and will be monitored closely throughout the week,” McKay said.

“Naturally, we are always cautious with concussion symptoms so Jed will be closely observed and will need to pass all tests this week to be available to play. We will have a clearer indication of this by the end of the week.”
