Trading Ikon Park for 10 different hotel hubs across Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, it’s been a year we won’t soon forget.
With the final siren having rung on the final game, it’s time to look at those who featured in five or more games for Carlton or made their AFL debuts in 2020.
Here’s the year that was for Carlton’s No.32, Jack Newnes.

OVERVIEW
Arriving at Ikon Park on November 1 last year as a delisted free agent, Jack Newnes proved to be one of the best value signings across the competition in 2020.
Once again featuring in every game over the course of the season, Newnes proved to his new coaches that he was someone to be relied upon each and every week.
Having an uncanny knack of hitting the scoreboard, Newnes rated elite amongst midfielders for goals, kicking 13 from 17 games.
Taking his career tally to 172 games, the experienced former Saint was an asset and - on one particular occasion - a match-winner for the Blues in 2020.
BEST PERFORMANCE
While one certain kick in Round 12 was played around the country, it was Newnes’ showing in Round 13 which took the cake as his best for the season.
With 23 disposals, a goal and a season-high nine score involvements, Newnes was crucial in Carlton emerging from Sir Doug Nicholls Round with the four points.
Polling a coaches’ vote in the win over Gold Coast, Newnes formed part of a key Carlton contingent which got the job done against the Suns at TIO Stadium.

THEY SAID IT
“Jack Newnes has written his name into Carlton history forever.”
The praise doesn’t get much higher than that from one of Carlton’s very best ever, but they were the words used by Stephen Kernahan to describe Newnes’ after-the-siren heroics.

Up until Saturday night, Stephen Kernahan was the last Carlton player to win the game after the siren. This is what he made of the moment, the kick and the emotion.#OwnTheFuture
“When Jack snuck in there, I thought he was the best bloke to bomb it — and did he bomb it! Putting to one side the pressure after the siren and the rain throughout the game, it was one of the great kicks.
“I was in the moment. When Jack kicked the goal, I was so rapt I was out of my seat.”
