THREE Blues have had their 2020 efforts recognised with nominations for both the rebel Mark of the Year and Coates Hire Goal of the Year competition.
Sam Walsh, Jack Newnes and Patrick Cripps have been nominated across both categories for providing three of the best contenders in the competition.
Walsh has the chance to take home the rebel Mark of the Year for his courageous mark in Round 7 against Port Adelaide.
Running back with the flight for 30 metres, the grab saw Walsh fly high into Port Adelaide’s forward 50 into the likes of a marauding Charlie Dixon in a clear act of courage.
Newnes’ nomination needs little introduction.
The goal, which has cemented itself as one of the moments of the year, saw the Blues steal an after-the-siren victory over Fremantle in Round 12.
Dubbed ‘the best since Blight’, the spectactular effort handed Carlton its first win after the siren since Stephen Kernahan’s goal in 1987.
The co-captain, however, was not to be outdone with his Round 17 goal also in contention for the Coates Hire Goal of the Year.
Rampaging through the contest like a raging bull, Cripps fought the opposition, accelerated to break tackles and sold some candy to finish with an important goal against the Crows.
