Carlton’s defensive stocks have been dealt a massive boost on the eve of the team’s titanic encounter with Collingwood at the MCG tomorrow night, with Michael Jamison and Nick Duigan both named in the starting 22.

For both players, the third round blockbuster doubles as their first senior hit-outs for the season - Jamison having now overcome a stress-related back problem and Duigan a knee complaint.

They resume having successfully negotiated an intra-club match for the Northern Blues at Visy Park last Thursday... and there could be no greater stage than “The G” packed to the rafters.

Carlton Senior Coach Brett Ratten, in an email to Members earlier this week, revealed that the scheduling of last Thursday night’s match with Brisbane at the Gabba “impacted on our selection not to call on players returning from injury such as Michael Jamison or Nick Duigan, who had only five days to back up from a Northern Blues fixture”.

“That’s hardly the best preparation and it was resolved almost a month ago that if players weren’t fit for round one then they wouldn’t be considered for senior selection until the third round to ensure they were fully prepared,” Ratten said.

With Jamison and Duigan returning to the fold, Jordan Russell and Bret Thornton are the two senior players unfortunately making way.

At 25, Jamison, readies for his 72nd senior game in six seasons for the Blues, while the 27 year-old Duigan prepares for game number 23.
