HE SAID IT
“Yeah I have taken it pretty personally the past week. There have been a couple of back pages that made me feel like I was a criminal, but when you’re captain of a great club like Carlton you’ve got to take the heat when it comes. And I’m just really so proud of the way all the boys responded.”
- Marc Murphy speaking to carltonfc.com.au after Carlton defeated the Western Bulldogs by 28 points in Round 5.
THEY SAID IT
“The Carlton Football Club is delighted that Marc has seen fit to further his outstanding on-field career with us. Murph’ is a popular bloke, a courageous player and inspiring leader. He goes about his business with little fuss or fanfare, so it’s of real no surprise that he’s earned the admiration and respect of his team.”
- Andrew McKay speaking about Murphy’s new four-year contract, ensuring that the much-admired captain is bound to the Blues until at least the end of 2018.
SEASON HIGHLIGHT
Marc Murphy was nominated for the AFL’s Hungry Jack’s Goal of the Year for his sensational goal from the boundary in the opening quarter of Carlton’s Round 19 clash with Fremantle.
On the run, Murphy scooped up the ball near the boundary keeping it in play, before snapping for goal.
He was also nominated for the AFL’s Mark of the Year for a grab in the Round 16 win over St Kilda.
Murphy intercepted a kick and with eyes only for the ball he leapt for the mark, resulting in a heavy clash with St Kilda’s Trent Dennis-Lane.
Both players hit the turf – Murphy landing on his back with the ball still safe in his hands.
