A BOYHOOD dream will come true in Navy Blue on Sunday.
After some standout form at reserves level, Matthew Cottrell has been named to make his AFL debut for the team he supported as a kid.
The grandson of former Blue Len Cottrell (1958-59) earned his spot on Carlton’s list in February 2019, officially becoming a Blue alongside Michael Gibbons.
He will get his first chance at senior level against West Coast at Optus Stadium, becoming Carlton player No.1215 in the process.
Cottrell is one of three inclusions for tomorrow’s clash, with the speedy debutant joined by Tom De Koning and Zac Fisher.
De Koning will end his two-year wait for senior football after his 2018 debut, while Fisher will play his first game since the competition restart after an interrupted run with injury.
Harry McKay has been ruled out of the side after falling heavily on his knee in last week’s game. Earlier in the week it was expected he would be cleared to play, however the soreness did not settle.
He is expected to be available for selection next week.
David Cuningham (calf) and Callum Moore (omitted) also come out of the side for what will be Carlton’s fifth annual AFL Carlton Respects game.
