SENIOR Coach David Teague is confident his Carlton side is up for one of the toughest tests in football this weekend.

Carlton will take on a red-hot West Coast outfit at Optus Stadium on Sunday, who have won all three games since returning to home soil.

Citing the Blues’ victory at Geelong back in Round 3, Teague believes his side can rise to the occasion on the weekend.

“We’ve had some big challenges: we went down to Geelong with a challenge on their home ground and the boys responded very well,” Teague said.

“West Coast on their ground, what an opportunity, what a challenge. We want to make sure our effort is very high this weekend.”

After a disappointing game against Hawthorn, Carlton has been focussing on some costly momentum shifts within games.

Teague said the focus was limiting the opposition’s impact and getting the game on their own terms. and making sure they play on their terms.

“The opposition scores too much when they have momentum and we just need to limit the damage,” he said.

“When we have the momentum, our ability to score has been quite strong.

“We haven’t handled it well, we need to get better and that’s our aim.”

With wet weather forecast for Sunday’s game, Teague is confident his side will bring a strong contest against an in-form West Coast.

“I have to admit, our boys like playing in the wet,” he said.

“We need to be really strong in the contest in any game: our game style relies on that and we have adapted reasonably well in the past and we need to do that again.”

With Marc Pittonet becoming a consistent ruckman for the Blues, Teague believes he can put up a real fight against the in-form Nic Naitanui.

“[Pittonet] will analyse it, he’s a real student of the game and sometimes it’s not about winning the ruck tap, it’s about where the ball goes,” he said.

“One of ‘Pitto’s’ strengths is he follows up, he tackles, he gets involved so we’re looking for that from him again.”
