There is movement at the station (‘”finally!” sigh the journalists) as the NAB AFL Trade Period enters its fifth day.

The first trades were completed yesterday with Hawthorn securing former Giant Jono O’Rourke and Carlton trading Jeff Garlett to Melbourne.

Day four also saw two bombshells dropped: Bulldogs skipper Ryan Griffen requested a trade to GWS, while it was revealed the Swans have been told they can’t trade players into the club for the next two years unless they immediately scrap the cost of living allowance.

As for the Blues, negotiations continue today around two key players in particular: Western Bulldog Liam Jones and young Giant Kristian Jaksch. It’s still unclear if or when either deal will get over the line.

So for now, here’s a wrap up of what the media is saying about Carlton:

The Giants, however, could be in a position to offer the Bulldogs an enticing deal for their skipper as discussions advance over key position player Kristian Jaksch, who is seeking a move to Carlton.

GWS midfielder Mark Whiley, who a number of clubs have been looking into as a trade option, has emerged as a key component of the Blues' pitch to land Jaksch.

It is understood the Giants could send both Whiley and Jaksch to the Blues in a deal that would see Carlton swap its pick No.7 for the Giants' pick No.19, which they received from Hawthorn on Thursday in a deal for midfielder Jono O'Rourke.

Carlton head of football Andrew McKay emphatically ruled out any chance of Bulldogs veteran Adam Cooney being recruited by the Blues.

McKay said Carlton was still working on a deal for Bulldogs forward Liam Jones but was confident it would get done eventually.

McKay envisaged Carlton's attempted trade with GWS, that would see Kristian Jaksch, Mark Whiley and pick 19 end up with the Blues in exchange for pick seven, would be confirmed by early next week.

Jeff Garlett is off to Melbourne for picks 61 and 79. Has its sights set on Liam Jones and Kristian Jaksch after losing Jarrad Waite to North Melbourne on Friday. The club is confident of securing Jones with its third round selection and also has interest in Jones’ teammate Jason Tutt.

However, the AFL has thrown a spanner in the works after offering the Blues no compensation for Waite.

The Blues are frantically trying to find a way to get Jaksch, who is keen on joining them, but they may need a third party to lure to get the deal done.

Kane Lucas remains without a contract and is looking for another home, but recruiting manager Shane Rogers hinted the 23-year-old could stay at the Blues if a trade is not secured.
