A KEY Blue is edging closer to his return to football.

Caleb Marchbank could be ready for his first hitout when Carlton next lines up in a reserves scratch match.

Director of High Performance Andrew Russell confirmed the dynamic defender is nearing the end of his recovery from a knee injury sustained in Carlton’s final Marsh Community Series clash in March.

“’Marchy’ is training well. We don’t have a scratch match over here in Perth this week, so won’t be able to play,” Russell said.

“He is going to continue to train hard with reserves players and we expect him to play in game play next week.”

Paddy Dow experienced a minor setback during his second reserves game in his return from knee injury, receiving a knock to his medial ligament.

With no reserves game this week as the group settle into hub life in Perth, Dow is unlikely to miss any upcoming reserves matches.

“He had a minor medial ligament injury during that reserves game on the weekend against the hybrid team that the boys played,” he said.

“He wouldn’t play this week. We expect it to be a one-week injury and he will be ready to go the following week.”
