PLENTY of resolve.
In a very physical match, Senior Coach David Teague was pleased with how his players stood their ground against North Melbourne.
In wet conditions, a persistent North weren’t letting up against the Blues, but Teague’s side rallied to come away with a seven-point win.
It was the fifth time in eight games the Blues have had a game decided by seven points or less.
“I think this group, even when we haven’t won, the ticker has been there and the fight: we’ve been in every game,” Teague said.
“We’ve shown that we like to compete and create a contest and I thought they adjusted really well.”
While the Blues dominated territory this week, they weren’t able to convert onto the scoreboard, kicking two goals in the second half from repeat forward 50 entries.
Despite this, Carlton was able to shut North out in the final term, hanging onto its lead to come away with its fourth win of the season.
“It looked like they had momentum, as much as [North] probably owned the majority of the third quarter, we had all the play,” he said.
“We just didn’t finish plays inside 50.”
In the fourth quarter, the Blues truly put the pressure on, with their composure and ability to close out the result impressing the Senior Coach.
“I thought the way our guys responded at the start of the fourth probably got the game played back in our half,” he said.
“We showed we can do it before so it’s not anything new, it’s just a reminder and to the players' credit, they nailed it pretty well in the last three or four minutes.”
Teague also provided an update on Mitch McGovern, who was withdrawn from the game at half time due to hamstring tightness.
