Robert Hyde, one of the most decorated junior coaches in AFL history will coach the Northern Bullants in 2012.

Hyde will take over from Darren Harris who will focus on his important role as Carlton’s Development & Academy Manager in 2012.

“We believe it is important for the ongoing development of our players to have Darren concentrate on this vital role and to work with the Development Coaches in ensuring our program is the best for our players,” said Carlton CEO, Greg Swann.

“Obviously the appointment of such a well-regarded and successful coach as Robert Hyde as VFL coach is a bonus for the Northern Bullants,” Swann added.

Robert Hyde has an outstanding record as a coach, particularly in recent years in his role with the elite Under 18 teams.

He was coach of the Calder Cannons between 1996 and 2006 taking the team to five Grand Finals and three Premierships.

Such was his record with the Cannons that their Best & Fairest Award is named in his honour.

Robert has recently coached the Victorian Country Under 18 sides in the National Championships.

A Collingwood Best & Fairest winner in 1976, he commenced his coaching career in 1981 when his playing career was cut short through injury.

His experience includes senior coaching positions in the Essendon District League and in the former Diamond Valley League before focusing on the Under 18 roles.

“We are thrilled that Robert has agreed to be involved with the Northern Bullants in 2012. To have him as a senior coach will be of tremendous benefit to the players as he has outstanding knowledge,” said Northern Bullants General Manager, Garry O’Sullivan.

“Together with the support of the Carlton coaching panel and a number of Carlton senior players, we believe we are in a very fortunate position for the new season.”
