Three players have finalised negotiations with the Carlton Football Club that will ensure they remain with the Blues for the foreseeable future.

Midfielders David Ellard and Dennis Armfield have re-signed for two years alongside athletic ruckman, Shaun Hampson who has re-signed for three years.

General Manager Football Operations, Steven Icke said all three players were key signings for the Club.

“Both Dennis and David have worked extremely hard to cement their place in the senior team this season and we recognise they will play a valuable role in the Club’s success over the coming years,” he said.

“We were also very keen to re-sign Shaun Hampson, whose improvement, even with a knee injury earlier in the year, has been notable.

“We expect all players to take part in a full pre-season and we look forward to watching them continue their development in 2012.”

A former rugby player, Dennis Armfield was drafted by the Blues from Swan Districts as No. 46 in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft (a selection traded to Carlton as part of the Chris Judd trade). This season the speedy midfielder played 15 senior games for the Blues, taking his overall tally to 60, since making his debut in round 10, 2008.

Also hailing from Swan Districts, David Ellard spent two years on Carlton’s rookie list before being elevated to the senior list, with pick No. 99 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, Rookie Elevation. Tough and strong at the contest, the 178cm midfielder kicked 15 goals in 19 games this season taking his total games played to 27 since making his debut in round 7, 2008.

Ruckman Shaun Hampson was taken as the 17th pick in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft. He made his debut in round 21, 2007 and has now played a total of 44 games. Injuries restricted his 2011 season to nine games, not playing an AFL game after damaging his knee in round 13.

The former Queenslander returned from injury to play with the Northern Bullants, Carlton’s VFL affiliate, later in the season. He continued his improved form, highlighted by a six-goal performance in the Bullants semi-final victory, where he played mostly as a key forward.
