Carlton’s Irish International, Zach Tuohy, will make his AFL debut in Carlton’s round 11 match against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium this Sunday.
Carlton’s Irish International, Zach Tuohy, will make his AFL debut in Carlton’s round 11 match against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium this Sunday.
The Portlaoise native and former Gaelic footballer was elevated to Carlton’s senior list today and was advised by senior coach Brett Ratten that he will be selected in the team for this Sunday’s game.
“I am very excited and really looking forward to the game as it is a big step in my career,” Tuohy said when visiting Visy Park today with his parents who are currently visiting him from Ireland.
The 21 year-old was elevated to the senior list earlier in the season and travelled to Sydney for the round six match against the Swans as an emergency. He then returned to the rookie list when Luke Mitchell was taken off the long term injury list in May.
Tuohy was recruited from Ireland with the number 73 selection in the 2010 Rookie Draft as an international selection and he will join fellow Irishman, Setanta O’hAilpin in Carlton’s team on Sunday.
Adding to the excitement for the young Irishman is having his parents out visiting him.
“Having my parents our here in Australia adds to the occasion for me and it will be great to have them in the stands in Adelaide,” Tuohy added.
Carlton’s General Manager of Football Operations, Steven Icke said Zach’s recent form with the Northern Bullants had been exceptional.
“His improvement over the past two years has been rapid. He has genuine speed and is an elite kick and his selection this week is well deserved,” he said.
